Michigan online sports betting to launch this Friday
Michigan’s venture into online sports betting will go live on Friday Jan. 22 at 12:00 p.m. ET according to state gaming officials.
Michigan will also become the fourth state to launch online casino gaming.
“The Michigan Gaming Control Board and the state’s commercial and tribal casinos will begin a new era Jan. 22 with the launch of regulated online gaming and sports betting,” said Richard S. Kalm, MGCB executive director. “Michigan residents love sports and, judging by inquiries we’ve received, eagerly anticipate using mobile devices to place bets through the commercial and tribal casinos. Online gaming and sports betting will provide the casinos with new ways to engage with customers while the state and local communities will benefit from taxes and payments on wagering revenue.”
The MGCB has authorized nine operators to begin offering online sports wagering.
The nine operators set to launch Friday are: DraftKings, William Hill, Penn National/Barstool Sportsbook, TwinSpires, Golden Nugget Online Gaming, Rush Street, BetMGM/Roar Digital, FanDuel and Wynn.
Operators have spent over a year preparing for the eventual launch of online sports wagering in the Wolverine State. The launch process was delayed by Covid-19 and a lengthy regulatory process.
Nonetheless, operators will be pleased for their apps and websites to go live ahead of the NFL playoffs conference championship games and, of course, the Super Bowl.
Bettors will be able to wager on both professional and collegiate sporting events. Michigan is home to four professional sports teams as well as the Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans, two top college athletics programs.
