PointsBet, a leading sportsbook, has partnered with The Riverboat on the Potomac to open a new sportsbook in the tri-state area of the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia (DMV). The Riverboat, a unique gaming space located on Colonial Beach, is a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) with its leadership composed of women.
Maryland state senator Arthur Ellis remarked: “I am proud of the work the members of our delegation has put into the sports wagering bill. We fought hard for the sports betting industry in Maryland to be inclusive of both Charles County and minority businesses.”
The retail sportsbook will feature 21 high-resolution screens, a well-stocked bar and an exclusive lounge area. It has a 1,000-person capacity facility and offers guests stunning riverside views of the Potomac.
The launch of the PointsBet sportsbook comes in time for the peak season of the wagering calendar, which includes the start of the NFL, NCAA Football, NBA and NHL seasons. This strategic partnership with The Riverboat has positioned PointsBet to quickly offer its product to DMV-based bettors.
The move comes as recent statistics indicate this may be the most profitable NFL season in sports betting history.
PointsBet SVP of corporate development Paul Hannon commented: “PointsBet is delighted to commence operations with The Riverboat team in the brand-new sportsbook overlooking the beautiful Potomac River. This is a seminal achievement as the launch represents the first MBE to go live with licensed gaming in the state’s history, in line with the spirit of legislation.”
Ellis agreed that the partnership represented a step forward in diversity, saying: “The partnership is a success on both fronts, proof that Maryland can be a leader in equity. This sportsbook gives Charles County a seat at the table, with 100% MBE licensed ownership, in a billion-dollar industry.”
