Louisiana casinos report slow month for July 2022

Casinos statewide reflected an 8% decline year-over-year.

The Louisiana Gaming Control Board has published the state’s casino results for July 2022. According to the report, Louisiana’s casinos have experienced a decrease in gross gaming revenue when compared to this time last year.

The board reported $204.2m in gross gaming revenue from Harrah’s New Orleans and the state’s riverboat casinos. Last month’s total represents an 8% drop in revenue year-over-year.

In a breakdown by casino, Harrah’s New Orleans contributed $22.6m to the state’s $48.1m in land-based revenue during the month of July. Boomtown Casino & Hotel and Treasure Casino brought in $10.3m and $8.2m respectively.

L’Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles finished the month with $31.5m in gaming revenue, surpassing both Golden Nugget Lake Charles and Delta Downs Racetrack Casino Hotel. Golden Nugget brought in $31.2m in gaming revenue, while Delta Downs Racetrack Casino Hotel posted $16.2m.

Shreveport and Bossier’s seven properties also experienced decline in July, posted a year-over-year decrease of 13.1%. Casinos in the area posted a total of $50.9m in gaming revenue. Margaritaville Resort Casino closed out the month of July with a revenue total reaching $17.8m. Horseshoe Bossier City ended the month with $13.4m, and Bally’s Shreveport Casino & Hotel brought contributed $8.1m in gaming revenue to the overall total.

Baton Rouge experienced the largest decline last month, reported a 15.7% drop in revenue when compared to July 2021. Its riverboat casinos raked in a total of $20m in July.

Louisiana is currently working on expanding its mainland casino options. To date, Harrah’s New Orleans is the only casino located on the mainland.
