Indeed, as we approach International Women’s Day, 888poker has compiled a series of statistics that reflect these changing times.
2021 saw a 22% boost in the number of women playing poker. This increase reflects a steady five-year period of growth that has seen a 23% increase in female poker players over the given time period.
According to the statistics, women are playing poker in a relatively similar manner to their male counterparts.
Women mostly play poker in a casual sense, with that being the most popular way to play. Online cash games follow and then organized cash games. Live buy-in tournaments and free mobile games have also grown in popularity for women in recent years.
58% of female poker players started playing purely for fun, another 37% began because they thought it was an easy game to learn. Meanwhile, 33% of women saw poker as a good money-making opportunity.
While men still make up the bulk of competitive poker players, 31% of female players have never played in a tournament, the tide is undoubtedly turning and poker is becoming an increasingly equal game, where all players are welcome.
