North Carolina reports $66.8m in September sports betting revenue

The North Carolina State Lottery Commission has reported the state’s financial results for sports betting in September.
In total, handle came to $686.1m, of which $654.1m came from paid wagers and $32m came from promotions. This reflects growth of 43.3% month-over-month. Winnings paid out to players in September totalled $615.1m, leaving the gross wagering revenue for the month at $66.8m, up 23.4% month-over-month, with tax proceeds coming to $12m.
In the last three months, reflecting the 2026 fiscal year so far, handle came to $1.53bn, with North Carolinians taking home $1.38bn in winnings. As such, gross wagering revenue came to $143.6m, with estimated tax proceeds of $25.8m in tax proceeds.
Year-over-year, September’s sports betting handle reflects growth of 19.2%, though gross wagering revenue fell 4.7%, from September 2024’s earnings of $70.1m.

The results come as North Carolina continues to bolster its problem gaming services. In September the Addiction Professionals of North Carolina (APNC) launched two new behavioral health and problem gaming centers, aimed at providing help and resources to those struggling with addiction.
It also follows the recent partnership between Catawba Two Kings Casino and the Carolina Panthers, with the property to display in-stadium ads and activations to enroll in the casino’s loyalty program.
