Tennessee posts $594m sports wagering handle for November

This figure marks the state’s highest monthly wagering handle to date.

Data published by the Tennessee Sports Wagering Council has highlighted a new record monthly sports wagering handle in the state of $594.4m for the month of November.  

Further, the total of gross wagers placed in the state during November reached a figure of $598.6m, with tax figures falling just shy of the $11m mark – settling at $10.97m.

November’s monthly wagering figures mark another record-breaking month for the state, surpassing the previous record wagering handle of $547m which was set in October of this year. Prior to that, the record was set by September’s wagering handle of $521m.  

Evidently, it has been a busy fall period following a particularly quiet off season for sports wagering in Tennessee – with the state looking to finish the year strong as we turn over into 2025.

Indeed, the summer also saw a number of fines handed out to leading sportsbooks in the Volunteer State.  

Good to know: Tennessee has now posted four $500m+ monthly wagering handles, reflecting the industry’s progress since it’s then-record handle of $405m in October 2022

Regarding November’s monthly results, November saw a monthly rise in its handle of 8.2%, progressing on its aforementioned previous record handle posted in October. Moreover, Tennessee’s November 2024 results display a wagering handle rise of 14.2% year-over-year.  

In August 2023, various Tennessee addiction clinics reported a rise in activity related to requests for help with problem gambling-related issues, following the legalization of sports betting in the state in May 2019.

More recently, VGW submitted an official appeal against the Tennessee federal court’s decision to rule its sweepstakes games illegal, as a number of plaintiffs seek to recover their gambling losses.
