Investigation launched into Hysier Miller surrounding point shaving

Virginia Tech dismissed Miller from their team following NCAA investigation last month. 

According to reports, Temple Owls basketball team’s former player Hysier Miller is under investigation related to point shaving. 

Point shaving involves trying to change the final score of a game without the intention of changing who wins the game. 

The reports explain that the investigation is looking into Miller, to ascertain whether he bet on games in which he was involved in, manipulating the outcome of the games.

Back in March, some of Temple’s games had been flagged by US Integrity for unusual wagering activity, one of which was a loss to UAB, where UAB had gone from a 2.5-point favorite to a 7.5-point favorite at some sportsbooks before tip-off. 

Good to know: In July, Jontay Porter pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, related to the betting scandal that saw him banned from the NBA 

Only last month, Miller was dismissed by Virginia Tech following an investigation from the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) into “unusual betting patterns,” with the school saying this dismissal was due to “circumstances prior to his enrollment at Virginia Tech.” 

In a statement sent to ESPN, a Temple spokesperson said the school was “aware of the deeply concerning allegations of sports wagering last season,” and that it had not “received any requests for information” from any state or federal law enforcement. 

In other legal gaming news, IGT has announced it is investigating a cybersecurity breach that affected parts of its internal IT systems.
