A civil conspiracy lawsuit filed by a former patron last year has been dismissed with prejudice in the Vegas courts.
Key Points
- The case accuses Resorts World and its former COO of intimidation and harassment techniques
- US District Court Judge Miranda M. Du has dismissed the case with no opportunity for re-filing
- This latest action follows a number of legal cases taken against the disgraced former Resorts World executive – Scott Sibella
A lawsuit submitted by a former patron of Resorts Las Vegas against the casino has been dismissed today with prejudice by the US District Court judge in Nevada.
The suit includes accusations of civil conspiracy, negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress against both Resorts World and Scott Sibella, the casino’s former chief operating officer and top executive. Filed by a Robert ‘R.J’ Cirpiani, the details of the lawsuit highlighted alleged intimidation and harassment techniques employed by the property against Cipriani, after he reported the fact that known felons were being allowed to gamble at the casino to the property’s management.
He claimed that the casino directed another player to then intimidate him, however a judge has today discharged the case with prejudice – meaning there will be no opportunity for re-filing.
As per the decision for dismissal of the case, US District Court Judge Miranda M. Du explained that Cirpriani failed to adequately exhibit evidence of Resorts World being responsible for the behaviour of another player at the casino, namely Robert Alexander – former Vegas businessman and convicted felon.
Good to know: Cirpriani has stated that he “respectfully disagrees with Judge Miranda M. Du’s decision” as is now said to be exploring other legal options.
Judge Du commented on the suit’s dismissal, saying, “said otherwise, it is not as if the Court merely found some factual allegations lacking but the existing allegations suggest there are other facts out there that would make Cipriani’s claims plausible.”
This is not the first case filed against Scott Sibella this year. After leaving Resorts World in September 2023 following the Nevada Gaming Control Board’s (NGCB) investigation into the casino, the former executive was also subject to investigation for alleged money laundering activities during his time as MGM Grand COO.
Sibella was thereafter sentenced with breaches of the Bank Secrecy Act.
