Scott Sibella has left his role as President of Resorts World Las Vegas, due to violations of company policies, effective immediately. Sibella, however, was cleared by the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) after a year-long investigation.
Sibella also held the role of President of the MGM Grand Las Vegas before his time at Resorts World began in 2021. While with Resorts World, Sibella fostered a franchise agreement with Hilton Hotels and leveraged the Hilton Honors program and its database.
The NGCB began a review of information in April 2021 concerning allegations made in a sworn deposition by Resorts World customer, Brandon Sattler. Sattler implicated that Sibella worked with a convicted bookmaker named David Stroj, who was sentenced in 2018.
A spokeswoman for Resorts World emailed a statement to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, which read, “When we were first notified that in a deposition these claims were made, we immediately reached out to the Gaming Control Board with the full understanding that they would want to look into this matter.”
Since sentencing, Stroj violated the terms of his release and Sattler alleged that he had been working as an owner of Resorts World restaurant, Tacos El Cabron, where Stroj’s father was also a manager. If the alleged connection between Stroj and Resorts World is true, the company could face punitive action for working with an illegal bookmaker.
A statement from Resorts World said, “Resorts World Las Vegas today (Friday) announced that President and Chief Operating Officer Scott Sibella has left the company, effective immediately. This action comes after the company was recently made aware that Mr. Sibella violated company policies and the terms of his employment.
“Peter LaVoie, most recently the company’s SVP and COO, will serve as President. Peter’s extensive experience and expertise make him the right person to lead Resorts World Las Vegas through this transition.”
