Gambler Places $1.1 Million Bet On Super Bowl 60 Winner
A betting whale has already placed a large wager on Super Bowl 60.
Jeffrey Benson, the Director of Operations at sportsbook Circa in Las Vegas, posted on X that they accepted a $1.1 million bet on the New England Patriots’ moneyline at +188 odds.
Bettor Would Make Bank If Patriots Defeat Seahawks
The bet would win over $2 million if the Pats upset the favored Seattle Seahawks.
A celebrity likely placed this wager. Through Fanatics Sportsbook last year, Jay Z placed a $1 million bet on the 2025 NBA Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers.
As for Super Bowl 60, the Patriots opened as a 3.5-point underdog against the spread, but it later bumped Seattle to a 4.5-point favorite. BetRivers Sportsbook has since moved New England to +5.5.
Sportsbooks could be dropping the Patriots’ odds because of a potential injury suffered by quarterback Drake Maye, who appeared to injure his shoulder on a third-quarter scramble in the AFC championship.
Maye led the Patriots to their first AFC East title in seven seasons, helped eliminate three Top-5 defenses in the postseason, then reach their first Super Bowl since the 2018 season.
He will now attempt to become the youngest quarterback in NFL history to win the Super Bowl at just 23 years old. Tom Brady was 21 when he helped the Patriots win Super Bowl 36 against the St. Louis Rams.
New England Will Be Challenged In Super Bowl 60
The Patriots will be facing an uphill battle against Seattle.
The Seahawks enter Super Bowl 60 on a nine-game winning streak. They’re also 13-1 overall and 11-3 against the spread (ATS) in their last 14 games.
New England, on the other hand, is the first team to go 9-0 on the road, including the playoffs.
Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold has won the most games of any quarterback over the last two seasons, going 30-7 straight up (SU), and is an impressive 25-11-1 ATS.
Seattle is also 7-3 in its last 10 matchups with New England.
The last time the Patriots defeated the Seahawks was Super Bowl 49. New England’s 10-point comeback in the fourth quarter was sealed by a goal-line interception by Malcolm Butler.
Since that game, however, Seattle is 3-0 SU and 2-0-1 ATS against New England, including a 23-20 victory in Mike MacDonald’s second game as an NFL head coach, in week two of the 2024 season.
Having said all of this, history shows not to underestimate the Patriots.
