Choctaw Resort Development Enterprise (CRDE) broke ground this week for a new $25m property it is preliminarily calling the Louisville Travel Plaza. The development will be located on South Church Street in Louisville, Mississippi.
The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians is a branch of the Tribe that operates three gaming resorts under the Pearl River Resort brand. The Mississippi Band also announced last month that it will be expanding its Bok Homa Casino in Heidelberg. This will include the addition of a new restaurant, more slot machines and office space.
Though the new 18,000-square-foot Louisville plaza doesn’t have an official name yet, Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben has announced a Tribe-wide contest where members can enter their choices for a permanent name for the entertainment facility. The venue is planned to have 150 slot machines, a sportsbook lounge, a family-friendly restaurant, 3,000 square feet of retail space and fueling stations for both commercial and passenger vehicles.
Chief Ben told the local news station, WTOK, “This project has been discussed for some time and today it is great to see it come to fruition as we break ground. This is a new project for CRDE that represents business growth for our Tribe.
"I am excited for both the Crystal Ridge community nearby and for the Winston County/City of Louisville community. We have a wonderful working relationship and as Tribal Chief for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, it is a great moment for me that we can work together to collectively better provide for our people.”
Representatives from the City of Louisville, Governor Tate Reeves’ office and Congressman Michael Guest’s office joined Tribal dignitaries at the ground breaking ceremony.
