Polymarket Partners With On3 College Sports Media
Polymarket announced a strategic partnership with On3, naming the college sports media company its exclusive prediction market partner.
Beginning with the 2026 college football season, Polymarket will be integrated across On3’s editorial, video, podcast, newsletter, and social media platforms. On3 reaches more than 25 million fans. The content is already live. National championship odds, Heisman Trophy markets, and conference title predictions are running on On3-branded pages as of this week.

The partnership is standard media-company-meets-betting-platform fare in most respects. The strategic context is not standard at all.
Prediction Markets Continue to Navigate Areas Sportsbooks Can’t Touch
State-licensed sportsbooks navigate a patchwork of college sports restrictions. Ohio, Louisiana, Maryland, and Vermont have banned player prop bets on college athletes entirely. Several other states prohibit wagering on in-state college teams. Indiana’s Gaming Commission tabled a similar ban just last month while it gathered more information.
The Indiana University athletic director submitted a letter citing the Brendan Sorsby case, which began at Indiana, as evidence that individual college players’ markets pose integrity risks and eligibility dangers.
The debate we covered extensively in July, involving the MLBPA’s proposed prop bet ban, Indiana’s tabling decision, and the CFTC NPRM’s own signals about college markets, produced one consistent thread: college sports betting is politically and legally contested in ways that professional sports betting is not. State regulators approach it with extreme caution, and sportsbooks that operate under state licenses cannot simply ignore those restrictions.
Polymarket does not operate under state licenses. It operates under CFTC licensing and argues federal law preempts state gambling regulation at every opportunity. That argument is currently being tested in seven federal circuits simultaneously, with the Supreme Court likely to have the final word. But unless and until Polymarket loses that argument, it is not bound by the restrictions states have placed on college sports wagering. This allows for partnerships like this to move on without limits.
A Clear Competative Advantage for Prediction Markets
If the CFTC prevails in court and prediction markets retain their federal licensing shield, they can offer markets on college sports outcomes in states where licensed sportsbooks are prohibited from doing so. That is not a marginal difference; that is a clear competitive advantage. College football is among the most-watched and most-wagered sports in the United States, and such an advantage would create massive opportunity for PMs where sportsbooks are prohibited from venturing.
A prediction market platform that can offer national championship odds, conference title markets, and coaching change contracts to users in states that have restricted college sports betting on licensed sportsbooks has a direct, structural competitive advantage in those markets.
The CFTC’s own proposed rulemaking, whose comment period closed last week, signaled that college sports contracts would face heightened scrutiny as potentially against the public interest. The NFL filed a comment calling for stronger restrictions on college markets. But the NPRM is not final, and Polymarket is building its college sports product and distribution infrastructure now rather than waiting for regulatory clarity.
The On3 partnership clearly accelerates that strategy. On3 reaches the exact demographic PMs are looking for when it comes to college sports contracts. College sports fans with strong opinions and a habit of following recruiting news, transfer portal activity, and coaching speculation are the areas that prediction markets have been trying to reach through their influencer and media partnerships all year. Embedding Polymarket odds in editorial content about college football is a more durable distribution mechanism than a sponsored social post. It positions Polymarket as a data layer for college sports analysis rather than as a betting product.
Current Opportunity Over Regulatory Risk
The On3 partnership launches during the same college football season in which Brendan Sorsby, the quarterback at the center of the most significant college gambling case of the past five years in college athletics, won an injunction allowing him to play. He won’t be, mostly because of the backlash from other programs, with threats of legal action and boycotts.
Georgia and other premier programs announced they would refuse to schedule Texas Tech over the situation, while the entire conference threatened legal action. We covered the integrity implications of his case extensively in June, including the finding that sportsbooks appeared more confident in the game’s integrity than the athletic directors threatening boycotts.
Polymarket’s On3 partnership does not involve player props on individual college athletes, at least based on the contracts running so far: national championship odds, Heisman markets, conference title races. Those are outcome-level markets rather than player performance contracts. Those distinctions do matter for both the MLBPA-adjacent debate and the Indiana Gaming Commission’s specific concerns about college player props.
But the broader point stands. Polymarket is entering college sports media at full speed with an exclusive partnership at one of the sport’s leading digital publishers, at a moment when college sports gambling integrity is under more institutional scrutiny than at any prior point in the legal sports betting era. The regulatory risk is real, but the commercial opportunity is large. The platform has concluded the second outweighs the first, for now.
