AGA: US gaming industry has generated $44.38bn in revenue so far this year
United States on track to set annual record for commercial gaming revenue
It looks like 2022 might end up being the best year for commercial gaming in US history, the American Gaming Association reports. According to the AGA’s Commercial Gaming Revenue Tracker, the US took $15.17bn in revenue for Q3 2022. Across the first three quarters of the year, the industry brought in total gross gaming revenue of $44.38bn.
Currently, 2021 holds the record for annual gaming revenue, with companies taking in $52.99bn across all four quarters. By the end of Q3 that year, the industry had made $38.67bn, meaning that 2022 has seen a 15% increase in commercial gaming revenue so far. To industry only needs to make $8.61bn in Q4 2022 to beat 2021’s total annual revenue.
“While business challenges remain, high consumer demand continues to fuel our industry’s record success,” said AGA President and CEO Bill Miller.
Land-based slots and table games made 81% of the industry’s total revenue, bringing in $12.27bn last quarter. Sports betting brought in $1.68bn during the same period – also a record.
Furthermore, iGaming brought in $1.21bn in revenue in Q3 2022, which the AGA reports is a decrease of less than 1% compared to Q3 2021.
In total, the commercial gaming industry grew 9% in Q3 2022 – outpacing the US economy’s 3% growth during the same period.
Miller added: “Our sustained momentum in the face of broader economic volatility points to gaming’s overall health today and provides confidence as we look to the future.”
