Mandalay Bay to spend $100m on redeveloping its convention center

Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay hotel and resort reveals its redevelopment of convention center.
The Mandalay Bay has unveiled plans to spend $100m on remodelling its 2.1 million square-foot convention center.
The MGM Resorts-owned Las Vegas hotel and casino have selected a tropical theme for the redesign, which comes with artwork from diverse and underrepresented artists, including Thandiwe Muriu and Sarah Anne Johnson decorating the walls.
Ernest Stovall, VP of Sales for Mandalay Bay, said: “With Mandalay Bay home to many of the city’s top events and trade shows year after year, we recognized the need to upgrade the space to reflect modern-day needs and create a timeless design complemented by our premier service experience.
“We listened to feedback from meeting planners over recent years and are confident this refreshed and upgraded space will exceed their needs and expectations in every way.”
Furthermore, the space is expected to come with super-fast internet speeds, which the hotel claims can download a 4k movie in 30 seconds; while also featuring, 11 digital walls for sponsorship opportunities and targeted event messaging, 200 motion detection cameras and RFID locks on meeting room doors.
The center is expected to be ready for use by the end of 2024.
Meanwhile, Gary Fritz was appointed President of MGM Resorts Interactive earlier this month.
Bill Hornbuckle, CEO and President of MGM Resorts commented on the appointment: “Enhancing and growing our digital businesses is one of MGM Resorts’ top priorities, and Gary is uniquely positioned to help the company build on successes and seize new opportunities.
“Gary will play a vital role in MGM Resorts’ diversification strategy and drive our investment in digital innovations.”
