Betfred has announced that the company still intends to open a sportsbook at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.
Betfred USA Sports Director of Marketing Melissa Castillo said in a statement that the UK-based bookmaker remains in Nevada’s licensing process.
Castillo commented: “While we typically refrain from commenting on regulatory or licensing matters, we continue to work with the Nevada Gaming Control Board on our (Nevada) license and look forward to opening the sportsbook at the Virgin Hotel Las Vegas when that process has been completed.”
Virgin Hotels Las Vegas has not had a sportsbook since March 2021 when it first opened. According to a statement General Manager Joe Hasson made upon opening, the facility had been working through the licensing process with the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Hasson said at the time that Virgin Hotels expected to take wagers during the second quarter of last year.
Virgin Hotel Las Vegas’ sports bar and betting lounge Money, Baby! shut down in June for reasons that have not been made clear.
Whether Betfred’s licensing delay affected the closure is unknown.
Bookmaker Betfred Sports recently signed a deal in Maryland with Long Shot’s of Frederick to open a retail sportsbook in the restaurant. Betfred Sports is poised to open the retail sportsbook pending regulatory approval.
The temporary sportsbook will be juxtaposed to Maryland Jockey Club’s off-tracking betting facility and will have both self-service kiosks and in-person betting windows. The launch is scheduled just in time for the start of this year’s NFL season, which begins in September.
Once the bookmaker gains approval from state regulators, Betfred plans to also launch online sports betting in Maryland.
