BetMGM gained market access in Arizona through partnerships with Gila River Hotels & Casinos and the Arizona Cardinals.
Gila River operates three Arizona casinos which will open BetMGM Sportsbooks in the coming months. BetMGM will also open a sportsbook at State Farm Stadium, home of the Cardinals.
The BetMGM mobile app is expected to launch on September 9, the first day that operators will be able to roll out sports betting in the Grand Canyon State.
“It is an exciting day here at BetMGM to get the official sign off to launch on day one of sports betting in Arizona,” said BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt. “Through our partnerships with Gila River and the Arizona Cardinals, as well as the benefits of being connected to MGM Resorts properties nationwide, we have many exciting things in store for sports fans in Arizona.”
BetMGM will open to pre-registration on August 28.
BetMGM is at least the third operator to be approved for sports betting in Arizona. The state Department of Gaming previously approved licensure for FanDuel Sportsbook and Penn National Gaming and Barstool Sports.
The state will hand out 20 licenses, 10 to for professional sports organizations and 10 for gaming tribes. Online sports betting license holders are allowed two online skins. Arizona will tax retail sports wagering at 8% and online sports betting at 10%.
