June produced online and retail sportsbook gross gaming revenue of $42.5m, up 13.6% from May. Taxable revenue for the month was $34.2m, while $11.6m went to state taxes and $685,000 to local share assessments.
Online wagers accounted for 90.3%, or $379m, of all sports betting handle.
Pennsylvania closed the 2020-21 fiscal year with $5.6bn in sports wagers, $441m in GGR $309m in taxable revenue and $111m in state and local taxes.
Though handle fell in June, sportsbooks made up for the decrease in wagers by winning more per bet on sports like golf and tennis, according to Dustin Gouker, analyst for the PlayUSA Network.
“That really helped sportsbooks in June and will help them to continue to weather the offseason even as bettors engage less,” he said.”
FanDuel led the online market with handle of $163m, making up nearly 43% of all wagers. FanDuel reported June GGR of $19.7m, up from $17.6m in May.
DraftKings ran a distant second with $86m in handle and $6.4m in GGR. BetMGM took third with $37.4m in wagers and $3.2m in GGR, while Penn National’s Barstool-branded app brought in $31.9m in handle and $3.2m in revenue.
BetRivers rounded out the top five of the online market with $18.5m in handle and $1.4m in GGR.
Among retail sportsbooks, Rivers-Philadelphia led the state with $8m in wagers, followed by Parx Casino at $6.4m.
Online casinos and poker revenue fell slightly in June, generating GGR of $101m compared to $111m in May. Penn National’s iGaming umbrella of DraftKings, BetMGM, Barstool Hollywood casinos led the market with $37.2m.
