New Jersey reports April sports betting handle of $748m

New Jersey sportsbooks generated handle of $748m in April with 91% of bets placed online.
Handle was down 13% from March, an expected decline given the seasonal dip in the American sports calendar each spring.
According to PlayUSA’s Zack Hall, New Jersey saw a smaller month-on-month decline than several top markets including Colorado (-18%), Indiana (-25%), Iowa (-27%) and Illinois (-31%).
Online betting made up $681.2m of New Jersey’s total handle. Retail sportsbooks saw handle of $66.8m as casinos continue to operate under reduced capacity.
Operator revenue was $54.8m, compared to $60.8m in March.
FanDuel Sportsbook/PointsBet at Meadowlands led the way with win of $25.5m.
Resorts Digital/DraftKings/Fox Bet at Resorts Casino were a distant runner up at $12m, while BetMGM/Borgata took third at $5.2m.
Online casinos and poker revenue was $108m, down slightly from March’s record of $114m. Online casinos were responsible for $105m of the win.
Borgata and partner BetMGM led the way with $32.8m of revenue, while Golden Nugget was right behind at $32.4m.
Resorts Digital and partners DraftKings and Fox Bet earned $19.6m.
Retail casinos won approximately $190m last month. Counting retail win, Borgata led the state at $78m.
Borgata’s impressive haul comes despite multiple casino floor closures last month related to a technology upgrade that affected slots, table games, poker, sportsbook and racebook.
Hard Rock earned $42m for second place, while Tropicana won $26.7m to edge out Ocean Casino ($25.2m) for third.
Atlantic City casinos will return to 100% capacity beginning May 19, per orders from Gov. Phil Murphy.
