CBF survey shows 23.7% Brazilian soccer fans place sports bets

A new survey from the CBF Academy shows that sports betting has become a routine part of the matchday experience for a significant portion of Brazilian fans.
According to the study, 23.7% of supporters place sports bets, indicating that nearly one in four fans now engages regularly with betting platforms.
The numbers also reveal how much these bettors are spending: 80.6% place up to BR100 ($19) per month, suggesting a low-to-moderate spending pattern among most users, while 1.7% exceed BR1000 monthly.
This growing engagement arrives as football governance undergoes structural changes. The CBF recently confirmed a partnership with Genius Sports to deploy semi-automatic offside technology and advanced tracking systems from 2026, reinforcing expectations for higher integrity and transparency across competitions.
The collaboration reflects broader efforts to modernize oversight and reduce vulnerabilities within Brazilian football.
At the same time, lawmakers continue to debate the social impact of betting. A recent legislative proposal in the country introduced a National Strategy to Fight Gambling Addiction, focusing on prevention, mandatory behavioural screening, advertising rules and stricter operator obligations.
This aligns with rising concerns about the visibility of betting around football and its influence on young fans.
Besides that, data from Brazil’s Ministry of Finance show that sports betting and online gaming companies earned BR17.4bn with 17.7 million bettors in the first half of the year, highlighting the rapid expansion and economic relevance of the market.
Together, these developments paint a picture of a sector expanding quickly across entertainment, technology and regulation, besides a public increasingly aware of both its opportunities and its risks.
