MLGCA approves bet365 to begin operations in Maryland

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA) approved bet365’s application for an online sports wagering license during a regulatory hearing on August 28, marking the 15th US state in which the operator will be conducting business.
Maryland will also represent the second state in this month alone that bet365 has expanded into, having launched in Kansas on August 6. Sportsbooks currently operating sports betting services in Maryland include FanDuel, DraftKings and BetMGM, as the state recorded a combined handle of nearly $364.1m in July 2025.

Maryland is also one of the US states that has increased its sports betting tax rate after Governor Wes Moore signed a new budget into law which raised the tax on operator’s revenue from 15% to 20%. Originally, Moore had proposed doubling the rate to 30% as part of the new budget, but was quickly adjusted by fellow Maryland lawmakers.

V-Play NHL and NBA Re-Play are both officially licensed products with its respective sporting leagues, while Re-Play eSports offers virtual gameplay and betting opportunities for competitive video games.
