The Venetian Resort Las Vegas has filed a $1.9m lawsuit against QTLST Management and its CEO Shawn Copeland for failing to pay cancellation fees after agreeing to host QTLST World Media Week from July 26 through August 2 at the casino resort.
The Las Vegas resort casino filed the lawsuit on three counts of breach of contract, fraud and unjust enrichment. Copeland and The Venetian Resort Las Vegas signed a contract in May 2024 to begin development of the event, but the QTLST Management executive allegedly never issued required deposits while acting as the “alter-ego” of his entertainment company.
“QTLST reserved 1,535 hotel rooms per night for four consecutive nights (from July 28, 2025, through and including July 31, 2025), as well as twenty-five (25) suites for July 26, 2025, thirty (30) suites for July 27, 2025, and twenty-five (25) suites for August 1, 2025,” the lawsuit stated.
The Venetian Resort Las Vegas officially filed the lawsuit in Clark County District Court on August 27, but has yet to be made available for comment at the time of writing, which can also be said for both Copeland and QTLST Management.
The lawsuit additionally stated Copeland agreed to pay Venetian Resort Las Vegas’ $500,000 food and beverage minimum as well as reserved multiple meeting and boardrooms for QTLST World Media Week.
Good to know: The Venetian Resort Las Vegas finalized its first-ever contract with Operating Engineers Local 501 on May 21, covering approximately 400 union workers for wage increases, annual bonuses, medical coverage, free craft training and a defined-benefit pension plan
Copeland was then responsible for an initial $229,200 deposit by June 10, 2024, as part of a payment structure which included three installments from QTLST Management. The CEO allegedly agreed to a cancellation fee of $1,946,000 as part of the contract should he fail to pay any of the installments by the required dates.
The Venetian Resort Las Vegas officially cancelled the event on November 2, 2024 after not receiving any payments from Copeland or the entertainment company. The property is asking for all amounts due in the contract, ongoing interest on the unpaid balance and all costs and disbursements of the lawsuit be paid by Copeland and QTLST Management.
