The Racing Commission of the La Plata racetrack in Buenos Aires has named Fabián Rivero as its new President.
The announcement was made by Gonzalo Atanasof, who currently holds the title of President of the Buenos Aires Province Lottery, together with the administrator of the La Plata Racetrack, Mariano Cowen.
Rivero, a former jockey born in the city of La Plata, has competed in more than 15,000 races, winning over 1,900, including 15 Group 1 victories over nearly four decades.
He also serves as president of the Apprentice Jockey School at the La Plata Racetrack, where he shares his extensive experience with new generations of riders.
He stated: “This new responsibility is a great honor for me. I am confident that, together with a dedicated and transparent team, we will position the La Plata Racetrack where it truly belongs.”
Gonzalo Atanasof said: “With this appointment, we are taking another step toward enhancing the status of the La Plata Racetrack.”

The La Plata Racetrack is located in the city of La Plata, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. It has four sand tracks, the main track measuring 2,000 meters by 27 meters wide, and hosts 124 race meetings each year.
Recently, it announced the implementation of a Commingle system, similar to Palermo’s, allowing horseraces to be broadcast internationally and included in a global betting pool, aiming to increase the visibility and elevate the status of Argentine horse racing on the global stage.
This model, already in use in countries such as the US, Japan, France and the UK.
