The New York State Gaming Commission has released its January mobile sports betting results. Last month, the Empire State reached a new high for its sports wagering handle, which totaled $2.48bn.
Though reaching the $2bn high water mark is not a first-time feat for the state, the surge in wagering activity in January was enough to beat out the record high previously set last October.
The state handle last month blew past what New York players bet during December by nearly $200m and surpassed what the state reported in January 2024 by more than $500m.
Last month’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) reached $247m, reflecting an increase of nearly $97m when compared to December’s results.

Platform providers around the state reported a combined total of nearly $121m in net revenue during January, almost $50m more than results reported during December.
Revenue set aside for education last month totaled nearly $149m.
To date, 38 states have embraced regulated sports betting since the US Supreme Court overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) in May 2018, also known as the Bradley Act.
Voters in Missouri recently said yes to a legal sports wagering market during November’s election, bringing the state one step closer to becoming the 39th state to welcome this market.
Regulators in Missouri said they expect to launch this summer.
