Maryland sports bettors wager $639.9m throughout November 2024

Sports wagering contributed its highest amount for the state since its launch in December 2021, totaling just under $11.8m during the month.

Maryland Lottery and Gaming has announced a new record for single-month handle and state contributions after reporting that $639.9m was wagered throughout November 2024. State contributions were said to be just under $11.8m, the highest since sports betting launched in the state during December 2021. 

Sports wagering contributions to the state are directed to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which supports public education programs. The largest previous single-month contribution was $9.4m in September 2024.

The $639.9m handle surpasses the record-setting $593.1m generated throughout October 2024, also representing a 7.9% increase from the prior month period. Maryland currently has 11 mobile sports wagering platforms and 12 retail sportsbook locations.

Mobile sports wagering accounted for the vast majority of November's handle, generating just over $621m while retail sports wagering saw a handle of nearly $18.9m. Players won back $557.5m of bets that had been placed, with $540.6m being distributed from online wagers. 

Good to know: Maryland Lottery and Gaming reported November 2024 revenue from the state’s six privately owned casinos on December 5, which generated $158.1m in total revenue

In total, online sports wagering generated $80.4m in hold for the state of Maryland during November 2024, while retail sports wagering produced just under $1.4m throughout the period. 

Since its inception in 2021, sports wagering has contributed more than $128.5m to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund and $3.6m in expired prizes given to the Problem Gambling Fund.
