iGaming Ontario reports CA$18.4bn betting handle for Q1 2024

iGaming Ontario has released its market performance report covering the first quarter of the 2024-25 fiscal year, including the gaming revenue and total handle for the Province. The total handle for Ontario during Q1 2024 was CA$18.4bn (US$13.3bn), a 31% increase year-over-year.
Total gaming revenue for the first quarter of 2024 reported by iGaming Ontario was CA$726m, up from the Q1 2023 figure of $540m.
Casino games, including slots, live and computer-based table games and peer-to-peer bingo, accounted for nearly 84% of total wagers and 73% of gaming revenue.
“With 50 regulated Operators and a one-third increase in wagering and revenue figures over the first quarter of last year, Ontarians who choose to gamble are finding many enjoyable options in our open regulated igaming market,” iGaming Ontario Executive Director Martha Otton said.
“The revenue generated by Ontario’s competitive igaming market contributes directly to provincial priorities such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education.”
Betting, including on sports, esports, proposition and novelty bets, as well as exchange betting, accounted for CA$2.5bn of total wagers and CA$181m of gaming revenue.
Peer-to-peer poker was responsible for CA$402m of total wagers and CA$16m of gaming revenue.
It was also discovered on July 22 that Ontario iGaming had contributed a combined total of $1.24bn to federal, provincial and municipal government revenues.
Deloitte released its Economic Contributions of Ontario’s Regulated iGaming Market – Year 2 report and, according to the group’s findings, the market sustained nearly 15,000 jobs.
