Set to open in 2025, Monmouth Park and Caesars celebrated breaking ground on a trackside sportsbook and entertainment complex that was announced last year. The complex will feature 16,000 sq ft of indoor and outdoor sports viewing with flatscreen televisions, food from burger-chain Shake Shack and more than 25 self-service betting kiosks.
A ceremonial groundbreaking event was held on May 7, including representatives from Monmouth Park, Caesars Sportsbook and local dignitaries who planted golden shovels in the ground to mark the occasion.
“We are proud to continue investing in Monmouth Park to elevate the sports betting experience for New Jersey sports fans,” Caesars Digital SVP and Chief Development Officer Dan Shapiro said.
“The sportsbook at Monmouth has been a success since Governor Murphy placed the state’s first legal sports bet in 2018 and continues to be an outstanding complement to our online businesses. We look forward to continuing our support for horse racing in New Jersey and bringing sports fans and racing fans to this historic racetrack.”
Monmouth Park accepted the first legal in-person sports wager in New Jersey when it opened a William Hill sportsbook in 2018 following the overturning of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). After the acquisition of William Hill by Caesars, the sportsbook rebranded to a Caesars Sportsbook location in early 2022, where it has accepted in-person sports wagers and offered pari-mutuel wagering.
Dennis Drazin, Chairman and CEO of Darby Development, LLC which operates Monmouth Park, commented “We’re extremely excited to begin this next chapter with the upcoming opening of the new Caesars Sportsbook at Monmouth Park.
“This facility will be state-of-the-art with all the amenities that a first-class sportsbook can offer to patrons. As we start our sixth year of sports betting, we continue to see the growth and expansion we knew would eventually happen. This will be a magnificent addition to the Monmouth Park facility as our partnership with Caesars continues to evolve.”
Sports gambling in New Jersey was legalized in June 2018 and the state just reported a total gaming revenue of $526.6m for the month of March alone.
