Catena Media establishes online sports betting affiliation in Vermont
Catena Media expands operations following legalization of online sports betting in Vermont.
Affiliate Catena Media has launched in Vermont, now operating in more than 28 US states and Canadian provinces.
Vermont’s Department of Liquor and Lottery has selected three companies – Fanatics, DraftKings and FanDuel – who can now legally operate in the state.
Catena Media has agreements with two of these operators, DraftKings and FanDuel.
Catena Media’s VP for North America Ryan Harper said: “Initial interest from both the industry and sports bettors in Vermont is strong. Vermonters have enjoyed online daily fantasy sports products and horse-race wagering so are no strangers to the online market.”
This news follows the legalization of sports betting by Governor Phil Scott who signed the bill in June last year.
Vermont is the final of the New England states to allow online sports betting and is now the first new market to open in North America in 2024.
Speaking of the legalization, Governor Phil Scott released a statement last year: “I first proposed Vermont legalize sports betting several years ago and I’m happy the Legislature has come to an agreement, as well.
“We know many Vermonters already participate in the marketplace and bringing it above board provides important resources and consumer protections.”
The next state expected to legalize online sports betting is North Carolina. The bill was signed last year by North Carolina’s Governor Roy Cooper the same week as Vermont.
In other news related to Catena Media, the affiliate established sports betting sites in Kentucky in October last year, after mobile sports betting became legal in September.
