Tennessee Action 24/7 receives sports betting operator license
Nashville-based startup becomes state’s fourth approved operator as Nov. 1 go-live date looms
The Sports Wagering Committee of the Tennessee Education Lottery’s board of directors conditionally approved Tennessee Action 24/7, LLC to receive a license for sports betting operations in the Volunteer State.
The Nashville-based startup joins FanDuel, BetMGM and DraftKings as entities approved as sports betting operators in Tennessee.
Sports betting is scheduled to go live on Nov. 1, according to the Tennessee Lottery, which is responsible for the licensing and regulation of online sports wagering in the state. The TEL noted it does not serve as an operator, only as the regulator, in accordance with the law.
The committee also approved five supplier applications and six additional vendor applications. The next meeting of the committee is scheduled for Oct. 16.
A spokesperson for Tennessee Action said they were pleased to confirm the company had received conditional approval for a sports gaming operator license.
“Action 24/7 looks forward to being the only locally owned and operated sportsbook in the starting lineup on Tennessee’s highly anticipated November 1st go-live date,” they told Gaming America.
According to a statement from the TEL, there are no restrictions on the number of licenses that may be issued for interactive sports gaming operations, but licensees and suppliers must meet “suitability requirements.”
“We are working diligently with all applicants as we establish and support a responsible and competitive sports wagering program in Tennessee,” TEL President and CEO Rebecca Paul Hargrove said in a statement.
Tennessee state law permits wagering on sporting events via the internet, mobile device or other telecommunications platforms. A customer must be at least 21 years old to play and physically located in Tennessee at the time a wager is placed.
There are three categories of potential applicants: licensee (operator), supplier and vendor.
