Buenos Aires Lottery president addresses youth gambling risks at LAPSYCONF

Jesus Acevedo, president of the Buenos Aires Lottery (LOTBA), spoke at LAPSYCONF, an international conference on the new health ecosystem held in Buenos Aires to mark World Mental Health Day.
The event brought together national and international experts in mental health, wellness, and emerging therapies.
Acevedo participated in the panel “Between Screens and Bets: Keys to Supporting Children and Adolescents” alongside specialists from clinical and digital fields. He addressed the “concerning growth of early access by minors to online betting platforms” and outlined how LOTBA works to prevent this issue through comprehensive child protection measures.
The executive emphasized the distinction between legal and illegal platforms, explaining: “Legal gambling is what ends in .bet.ar and its difference lies in the fact that it was regulated in some jurisdiction of Argentina, since in our country, gambling is a non-delegated competence of each of the provinces.
“There is a consensus that what is .bet.ar means that it was approved by one of us, and that it has been approved is not minor because it means that it went through a lot of requirements that make it very difficult to forge the identity of who is playing.”
Acevedo highlighted key initiatives the organization is implementing to address youth gambling. These include relaunching the awareness campaign “Hablar es Ganar” (To speak is to win), which carries a dual meaning: promoting family dialogue as a prevention tool and bringing the issue into public discourse.
The authority has also blocked illegal sites and access from public schools and the BA WIFI network, filed criminal complaints against illegal gambling sites and promoters, and implemented responsible gaming tools on legal platforms.
The lottery president concluded by emphasizing the importance of creating safe environments, educating on digital citizenship, and providing dialogue and real presence.
