Video poker machines at truck stops, bars and restaurants earned another $84.7m, on par with March.
April marked the first month since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic that most Louisiana businesses could operate at full occupancy. All gaming properties were closed across the state in April 2020, eliminating year-on-year comparisons.
Harrah’s Casino in New Orleans reported gross gaming revenue of $25.1m, an increase of 12% from March.
Nugget Lake Charles led the state’s riverboats with $31.8m of revenue, coming in just ahead of runner-up Isle Lake Charles at $31.6m.
L’Auberge Baton Rouge generated the highest month-to-month increase, earning $18m of revenue in April, up 19%. Eldorado Resort in Shreveport also had a strong April, bringing $13m for a 16% improvement.

Riverboats combined for $176m of revenue in April.
The four slot-only racinos generated another $35m of revenue, led by Delta Downs’ $16.7m. Delta Downs was the only racino to see a month-on-month drop, at -3%.

In Baton Rouge, state lawmakers are in the process of legalizing online and retail sports wagering.
Last Tuesday a Senate judiciary committee passed a sports betting bill, setting up a potential floor vote later this month. A day earlier the House of Representatives passed a companion taxation bill.
The sports betting bill under debate would allow Louisiana’s one land-based casino and all riverboat casinos and racinos to open a retail sportsbook. All retail sportsbooks would receive two online skins and the state lottery would receive one, giving the state as many as 41 online sportsbooks.
The Louisiana State Legislature has until June 10 to pass a sports betting bill.
