The city launched a training initiative for influencers under investigation for promoting unlicensed betting platforms.
Key Points

- The first step was a video shared on social media to raise awareness
The City of Buenos Aires has held the first awareness course aimed at celebrities and influencers who have been reported to the justice system for promoting illegal online gambling platforms on their social media.
As part of the reparation agreements carried out by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Gambling (FEJA), a video was recently released on social media aimed at raising awareness on gambling, legal sites and gambling addiction.
This initiative underscores the role of promoting legal gambling in efforts to prevent gambling addiction among minors. It is part of a series of measures implemented by LOTBA, the city’s regulator, to address illegal gambling in the city and to support vulnerable groups.
During the session, representatives from Lotería de la Ciudad presented information and practical guidelines regarding illegal online gambling platforms. They discussed methods to prevent gambling addiction among minors, outlined LOTBA’s regulatory responsibilities in the city, and addressed the promotion of gambling activities under legal regulation.
Since 2023, Lotería de la Ciudad has filed reports against several influencers and public figures for promoting unlicensed betting platforms on social media.
These cases are currently under investigation, alongside 81 formal notices issued and 19 complaints filed in relation to unauthorized land-based gambling operations.
Good to know: The “Hablar es ganar” (“Talking is Winning”) campaign was relaunched to promote dialogue and prevent minors from accessing illegal online gambling.
These actions include the large-scale “Juego Limpio” (Operation Fair Play) initiative and a series of recent raids in Buenos Aires City and the municipalities of Vicente López and Chacabuco.
Here, authorities dismantled a network that promoted illegal online betting and targeted minors through WhatsApp and within school settings.
