Iowa May sports betting handle reaches $202.6m
Sports wagering generated nearly $1.4m in taxes last month.

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission has released its sports betting results for the month of May. The commission posted a nearly $202.6m statewide sports betting handle last month.
Iowa’s monthly handle rose by close to $20m when compared to what the state reported a year ago.
Internet net receipts last month reached $18.9m, while total net receipts reached close to $20.1m.
In May, 19 operators took online bets from Iowa players, accounting for a total internet sports betting handle of close to $190.9m.
Players statewide walked away with $182.5m in winnings in the month of May. Almost $172m of those wins came from wagers that were placed online.
Last month, sports wagering in Iowa contributed more than $1.4m in taxes.

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission also released its May gaming revenue report. The state’s casinos reported $149.5m in adjusted gross revenue (AGR) last month.
Total table revenue in May reached $13.9m, while revenue produced by slot games around the state totaled $135.6m.
Casino revenue last month contributed close to $28.6m in state taxes, and nearly $0.7m in local taxes.
To date, 38 states, as well as the District of Columbia have legalized sports wagering since the US Supreme Court lifted the federal ban on the practice in May 2018.
Iowa opened its regulated sports wagering market more than a year after the US Supreme Court overturned the federal sports betting ban.
