Brazil’s Pixbet regains authorization to operate following court decision

Pixbet, one of Brazil’s most popular betting platforms, has regained its authorization to operate in Brazil after obtaining a court injunction that overturned a suspension issued by the Secretaria de Prêmios e Apostas (SPA), the Brazilian Secretary of Prizes and Bets, on April 11.

The decision was confirmed in official documents and reported by national media outlets.

The SPA had suspended four betting operators, including Pixbet, citing non-compliance with technical certification requirements as outlined in Ordinance No. 2,104. In response, Pixbet filed a writ of mandamus, arguing that it had submitted the required documents within the deadline and that the suspension was unjustified.

The court agreed, stating that Pixbet had provided three of the four necessary documents in February, and the final one on April 10, one day before the suspension was announced. The judge ruled that the company had met the obligations and that the suspension would cause disproportionate harm, including reputational and economic damage.

The injunction also permitted Flamengo, Brazil’s largest football club, to continue its sponsorship with Pixbet during their match on April 14 in the Brasileirão, the premier national football competition in Brazil.

Initially, it had engaged with an alternative sponsor, Flabet, which is also part of Pixbet, while waiting for a resolution.
