The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has released an update to its Registrar’s Standards for Gaming: Lottery Sector.
All amendments went into effect April 1.
The regulator amended the standards “to adapt the surveillance and security requirements for self-serve lottery terminals on gaming floors at casinos to reflect the distinctions between retail and casino environments.”
Two requirements were amended that will permit the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) to install self-serve lottery terminals on casino gaming floors. Installation will be subject to existing line of sight requirements.
The AGCO said in a statement, “The affected requirements are not necessary in casinos given this high degree of control and surveillance but remain in place for other lottery retailers to help minimize the risk of unauthorized access to self-serve lottery terminals.”
Operators will now need to ensure that self-serve lottery terminals are installed with “a direct line of sight of the seller and sellers’ employees of the premises,” according to the new standards.
Sellers with these terminals would also be required to monitor the machines under the terms of the changes.
However, these requirements do not affect casinos.
Additional updates were made to the Registrar’s Standards for clarity. These updates included clear definitions of “casino” and “iGaming.”
In other news, Elk Studios, an online slot provider, recently released seven hand-picked titles in the Canadian province of Ontario.
The provider’s new lineup for Ontario players includes Katmandu Gold, Nitropolis and Cygnus.
