West Virginia University hosts first ever responsible gambling symposium

Sports betting and ethical growth were high on the agenda.

West Virginia University (WVU) Esports Business and Education Program hosted its first ever responsible gambling presentation on March 17, which saw a number of industry delegates explore topics around responsible practices and ethical growth.  

The symposium brought together a number of industry experts to discuss and present on the development of ethical responsibility within esports, sports betting and digital entertainment. 

More specifically, three talks entitled, ‘Women and Underrepresented Populations in Esports, Sports and Entertainment,’ ‘Regulations and Research Combine to Create a Safer Environment’ and ‘Consumerism in iGaming, Esports and Traditional Sports’ took place over the course of the event.

Jeremie Kanter, Director of Regulatory Affairs at Continent 8 Technologies, also said, “It has been a privilege to participate in the inaugural Responsible Gaming and Digital Entertainment Symposium.  

“This initiative marks the beginning of an innovative and impactful approach to leveraging data through a distinctive partnership model that includes the state lottery, industry, and academia, with the purpose of safeguarding and supporting the state’s gaming participants while fostering the growth of the broader entertainment sector.”  

This latest news comes following the announcement that the West Virginia Lottery had introduced its fully digital gambling program in October of last year.
