Michigan Gaming Control Board issues five more cease-and-desist orders

All recipients are offshore gaming platforms.
Key Points
- The regulator says it is committed to protecting players around the state
- The platforms in question have violated Michigan’s gaming laws, according to the MGCB.
In an effort to crack down on offshore activity that violates Michigan law, the state’s Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has taken “decisive action” by sending out five cease-and-desist letters to various companies.
The regulator sent letters to BetWhale Casino, Black Lotus Casino, Coins Game Casino, Love2play Casino and Orion Stars 777 Players.
The control board said in a statement, “The MGCB has given these operators 14 days from the date of receipt of the cease-and-desist letters to halt their illegal activities. If they do not comply, the MGCB will work closely with the Michigan Attorney General’s Office to pursue further legal action.”
All five online platforms offer various casino games that include poker, blackjack, slots, Keno, bingo and game show titles. These sites also offer sports betting.
In the state of Michigan, operators must apply for licensing and must be approved by the state before they can offer services.
Operating an unlicensed gambling business in Michigan is a felony per state law.
According to the state penal code, “Gambling, which involves payment based on the outcome of an uncertain event, is prohibited under state law.”
It is also illegal to accept money “with the understanding it will be paid based on a game of chance.”
The MGCB said these five sites are now “under scrutiny” due to violation of state law.
MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams said, “These illegal platforms not only violate Michigan’s gaming regulations but also put consumers at risk by offering unreliable withdrawal options and lacking essential consumer protections.
“Our top priority is safeguarding Michigan residents by ensuring that all online gaming activities are conducted legally and safely. These operators must stop their activities or face additional legal consequences.”
In related news, Gaming Control Board recently sent a cease-and-desist letter to offshore operator BetNow.eu Sportsbook, Casino and Racebook.
The regulator said BetNow is operating illegally within the state.
BetNow offers players several gaming options on its offshore site, including poker, slots and live dealer games.
Through BetNow, players have access to blackjack, roulette and craps, along with betting services for horseracing and sports events.
