Pennsylvania hits $6bn total gaming revenue mark for first time during 2024

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has released the state’s full-year (FY) 2024 gaming revenue results, with the Keystone State reaching the $6bn mark for the first time in history, having generated $6.1bn during 2024. 

The figure represents an increase of 7.7% year-over-year, consisting of slot machines, table games, iGaming, sports wagering, VGTs and fantasy sports contests. iGaming, coming off a monthly revenue record for December 2024, saw the largest increase in revenue throughout the year, rising by nearly 25.3% year-over-year for a total of $2.2bn. 

Both iGaming and sports wagering set new record highs in FY revenue during 2024, despite sports wagering having recently reported a year-over-year revenue decrease of 69.8% for December 2024. 

Retail slot machines generated the most revenue of any gaming type during 2024, accounting for almost $2.5bn of Pennsylvania’s total gaming revenue, but having decreased 0.7% from the prior year period. Table games also decreased by 3.5% year-over-year, but still managed to generate nearly $937.5m in revenue throughout 2024. 

Sports wagering managed to increase by 11.4% from the prior year period, producing $510.7m in revenue during FY2024. Fantasy contests saw its revenue decrease by 7.1% year-over-year for a total of $18.7m, with DraftKings and FanDuel both reporting decreases in revenue of 6% and 26.3%, respectively. 

Good to know: The PGCB placed 26 people onto its Involuntary Exclusion Lists on January 16 for a number of harmful gambling-related activities 

Video gaming terminals (VGTs) increased its revenue by 0.7%, managing to generate just over $41.5m in revenue for FY2024. VGTs hit its record high revenue during 2022 with a total of nearly $42.1m, but has yet to surpass the $42m mark since. Fantasy sports contests have seen sharper declines, generating a FY2021 revenue of $29.3m but reporting decreases in each year since. 

Parx Casino reported the highest slot machine revenue of any property in Pennsylvania at $375.2m, but decreased by 2.9% year-over-year. Wind Creek Bethlehem generated $286.7m during FY2024, increasing by 0.6% from the prior year period. Live! Casino Philadelphia saw the largest increase of the top slot machine earners in Pennsylvania throughout 2024, rising by 11.3% year-over-year for a revenue total of $152.4m. 

Hollywood Casino at Penn National reported nearly $820.7m in iGaming revenue for FY2024, increasing by 15.2% from the prior year period. Valley Forge Casino Resort increased its iGaming revenue by almost 46.1% year-over-year, generating $573.5m in revenue during the period. 

Every property in Pennsylvania except Parx Casino, Mount Airy Casino Resort, Wind Creek Bethlehem and Mohegan Pennsylvania saw increases in iGaming revenue, with the four properties reporting year-over-year decreases of 2.4%, 13.2%, 9.3% and 23.1%, respectively.
