Pennsylvania sets monthly iGaming record with $223.7m in revenue for December

The state's total gaming revenue decreased by just 0.2% year-over-year, with Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course generating the highest revenue with a total of $99.3m.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has released the state’s total gaming revenue for the month of December 2024, including a new monthly iGaming record with a revenue of $223.7m. The total is over $23m higher than the previous record set during November 2024 and represents an increase of 35.5% year-over-year. 

Pennsylvania’s total gaming revenue decreased from the prior year period, however, but by just 0.2% to be reported at nearly $533.1m. Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course generated the most gaming of any property within the state during December, increasing by 31.3% year-over-year for a total of $99.3m. 

Valley Forge Casino Resort and Parx Casino also led the way with December gaming revenues of $87.6m and $54.1m, respectively, but the figures represent decreases of 5% and 5.8% from the prior year period. Hollywood Casino Morgantown saw the largest decrease year-over-year at 37.8%, reporting a December gaming revenue of just $5.8m. 

Retail slots led the way in revenue by game type throughout December, but still decreased by 2.7% year-over-year for a total of $202.1m. iGaming slots generated the second-most revenue in Pennsylvania throughout December, also seeing the largest increase during the month at 40.5% to be reported at $164.3m. 

Sports wagering witnessed the heaviest decrease year-over-year, falling by 69.8% and generating $21.9m during the monthly period. iGaming table revenue managed to increase by 24.2% from the prior year period, reporting a December revenue of $56.9m. 

Good to know: The PGCB placed 26 people onto its Involuntary Exclusion Lists on January 16 for a number of different gambling-related offenses 

Parx Casino accounted for the most slot machine revenue throughout December, reported to be $31.5m but decreasing 2.8% year-over-year. Wind Creek Bethlehem generated the most retail table game revenue of any property in Pennsylvania, and managed to increase by 3.6% year-over-year for a total of $21.6m.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course also led the way in total iGaming revenue during December at $86.4m for an increase of 41.8% from the prior year period. The property generated the most iGaming revenue in all three game types as well, but every property in Pennsylvania reported increases year-over-year outside of Harrah’s Philadelphia, Mohegan Pennsylvania and Wind Creek Bethlehem. 

For sports wagering, Valley Forge Casino decreased by over 64% year-over-year, but still managed to generate the most revenue of any property with a total of nearly $14.1m. Many of the Pennsylvania properties that offer sports wagering saw decreases in revenue throughout December, including Parx Casino (72.9%), Mohegan Pennsylvania (89.5%) and Rivers Casino Philadelphia (91.6%). 

DraftKings increased its revenue in Pennsylvania during the final month of 2024 by nearly 3.1% for a total of $1.9m, while FanDuel increased by 1.4% but generated just $565.8k of revenue. Underdog Fantasy managed to increase its revenue in Pennsylvania by 58.5% throughout December to be $215.9k.
