September sports wagering handle hits $248.9m in Kansas

The Kansas Lottery has released the state’s official sports betting financial figures for the month of September, reporting a combined retail and online wagering handle of $248.9m for the month.
After opening its sports betting market in September 2022, Kansas has just recorded one of its highest monthly wagering handles.
Overall, the state of Kansas generated revenue of $18.3m during September. Online wagering accounted for $239.8m of the overall handle; the remaining $9m wagered at retail locations across the state generated a total of $726,130 in revenue, of which the state taxed $72,613.
ESPN Bet’s Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway led the way in terms of retail locations, accepting a total of $6.2m in wagers over the course of the month.
Online, revenue generated reached $17.6m for September, with $1.8m going towards the state. This, combined with retail figures, churned up a total of $18.3m in revenue for the month, with $1.8m generated in state taxes.
Online was dominated by DraftKings for September, which accepted $119.3m in wagers, some $40m more than its closest competitor, FanDuel.
The state’s fully regulated gaming market is moving from strength to strength at present, with casino revenue also reaching $33m for the month of June, reflecting a 2.5% increase year-over-year.
September marks the return of the NFL season, one of the busiest betting periods on the US calendar after March, in which Kansas’ wagering handle reached $253m.
