North Carolina posts $340.4m sports wagering handle during July
Players walked away with more than $295.4m in winnings throughout the month.
The North Carolina State Lottery Commission has released its sports betting results for the month of July. Players placed more than $340.4m in wagers during the month and managed to take home more than $295.4m in winnings as well.
Promo wagering revenue for the month of July totaled almost $12.4m. The state also posted a total of $42.2m in gross wagering revenue last month.
Sports betting contributed close to $7.6m in taxes to the state in July.
Sports betting statewide made its debut in March of this year. Prior to the launch, the North Carolina State Lottery Commission issued sports wagering operators licenses to eight operators.
Its latest recipient was Tribal Casino Gaming Enterprise, which is an enterprise of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
Other approved licensees include FanDuel, BetMGM, DraftKings, Fanatics, bet365, ESPN Bet and Underdog Sports Wagering.
The commission said in an online statement regarding the recent approvals, “Two additional provisional supplier licenses were also issued.
“As of Feb. 29, the Commission has issued three full licenses for sports wagering supplier, 20 provisional supplier licenses and three sports wagering service provider licenses.”
Under the current regulations, the Lottery Commission is allowed to award up to 12 interactive sports wagering operator licenses statewide once the market is established. Players would then have access to online and mobile betting, as well as in-person wagering.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ (NCDHHS) Problem Gambling Program, along with ECU’s Gambling Research and Policy Initiative (GRPI) and Birches Health, recently teamed up to offer gambling disorder resources and treatment options to state players.
