PlayNow asks players to update passwords owing to credential stuffing
This relates to an incident that occurred last week.
The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) has made an announcement regarding PlayNow, asking players to update their account passwords.
The website has done this owing to a recent incident where passwords were stolen from other company websites which impacted a small number of PlayNow accounts.
Last week, PlayNow had detected a “suspiciously high volume of traffic,” on its website, which it identified as “credential stuffing,” which is where criminals attempt to access player accounts using email addresses and passwords that had been previously exposed or stolen from other companies.
After this, PlayNow then notified the impacted players that their accounts had been locked owing to the suspicious activity, as it also looked to block the suspicious traffic.
As a result, the company has asked players to change passwords and to avoid using the same ones they use for other websites, and to avoid using passwords that are easily guessable.
BCLC President and CEO Pat Davis said: “This is a deeply concerning incident and a cautionary tale for everyone with multiple online accounts.
“Our investigation remains ongoing, and we have found no evidence that our systems have been compromised, or that player login information was stolen from our systems.
“Integrity and security are at the core of our business and our games.
“We are committed to continuing our ongoing evaluation and enhancement of PlayNow security controls to maintain the safety of our players’ information going forward.”
