Caesars, BetMGM and FanDuel all live for online DC sports betting
The operators had suspended taking online wagers since Mayor Bowser had not yet signed the city’s budget for fiscal year 2025.
Multiple sportsbook operators have now gone live in Washington DC after receiving approval from the Office of Lottery and Gaming to begin operations as of July 17.
On July 16, FanDuel, Caesars and BetMGM all announced the suspension of online wagering as Mayor Bowser had yet to sign the city’s budget for fiscal year 2025. The new launches follow the DC Council’s approval of its FY2025 budget that included a provision to open the digital sports betting market.
“After three years of bringing unparalleled, omnichannel experiences to sports fans and supporting the DC metropolitan community through our partnership with the Washington Nationals, fans can now bet on their favorite teams with BetMGM across the District with our award-winning mobile app,” BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt said.
Eric Hession, President of Caesars Digital, also commented on the new development, having said, “DC sports fans have always displayed an incredible passion for their teams. Expanding access to our mobile sports betting app across the District will only enhance their fan experience, and we look forward to deepening the connection we’ve established with them since our historic opening in 2021.
“We’d like to thank Mayor Bowser, Chairman Mendelson, Councilmember McDuffie and the DC Council for their leadership on sports betting as well as the Office of Lottery and Gaming.”
Since 2021, Caesars sportsbook has offered in-person sports betting through its partnership with Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE), which opened a Caesars sportsbook at Capital One Arena, home of the Capitals hockey team and Wizards basketball team.
BetMGM in-person betting is currently accessible within and around a two-block radius of the BetMGM sportsbook at Nationals Park. It will retain exclusivity for the sportsbook as part of a multi-year partnership with the Washington Nationals baseball franchise.
