Vermont’s June sports betting handle reaches $10m

Vermont’s liquor and lottery department has released its sports wagering results for June. Last month’s sports betting handle totaled just over $10m.
The state’s handle fell by nearly $2m when compared to the total posted in May. Vermont reported a decline in activity during the month of May as well.
Close to 462,000 bets were placed during the month of May in Vermont, with the average wager amounting to $21.76. Nearly 50,000 fewer players throughout the state placed bets last month.
However, players from neighboring states did their part in helping Vermont reach the $10m mark. Out-of-state players accounted for nearly a fifth of all wagers placed in June and bet a total of close to $2.5m.
They also placed higher bets on average than players who live in Vermont. The average bet per out-of-state player was $33.36 last month, which was more than $3 higher than May’s average.
Players in Vermont took home more than $9m in June winnings. Vermont’s operators posted almost $0.9m in adjusted gross sports wagering revenue.
During June, baseball was the game of choice for Vermont sports wagerers. Bets placed on baseball totaled $3.4m, nearly a third o the state’s total handle.
Basketball and tennis grabbed the number two and three spots for the month, generating nearly $1.5m and $1.3m respectively.
Soccer pulled in other almost $943,000 to add to Vermont’s $10m handle, while hockey chipped in close to 232,000.
More than 35 states have established legal and regulated sports betting markets since the US Supreme Court overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) in May 2018, also known as the Bradley Act.
