Wind Creek Bethlehem license renewal hearing canceled due to power outage

The new date for the hearing will be communicated by the PGCB once the logistical challenges caused by the power outage are resolved.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has canceled the scheduled license renewal hearing for Wind Creek Bethlehem Casino due to a severe storm that caused widespread power outages in the Bethlehem area.
The hearing, which was set to take place at 10:30am in Bethlehem’s Town Hall, will be rescheduled, with a new date to be announced. Plans for the public meeting for the license renewal were first brought to light in early June.
The power outage, resulting from a powerful storm on Wednesday night, left many parts of Bethlehem, including the Town Hall and the adjacent Bethlehem Area Public Library, without electricity.
The PGCB confirmed the cancelation and stated that the Board will announce a new date for the hearing once the situation stabilizes.
The hearing was a significant event for Wind Creek Bethlehem, as the casino seeks renewal of its Category 2 Slot Machine Operator License, which is valid for five years.
The license covers the casino’s operations, and the renewal process typically involves public comments, presentations from the casino operators and reviews by state regulators.
This was the first renewal hearing for Wind Creek Bethlehem since 2018, with the previous renewal process delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In May 2024, Wind Creek Bethlehem was fined $125,000 by the PGCB for multiple incidents involving underage individuals gaining access to the casino’s gaming floor.
The violations, which occurred between 2021 and 2023, involved 11 individuals aged 18-20. The fine was part of a broader effort by the PGCB to enforce strict regulations and ensure the safety and compliance of gaming operations in the state.
The upcoming license renewal hearing for Wind Creek Bethlehem will provide an opportunity for the casino to address these and other regulatory issues.
The process will include a presentation by Wind Creek representatives on the casino’s performance and future plans, followed by questions from the PGCB’s Hearing and Appeals Division, State Police and the Bureaus of Investigations, Enforcement and Casino Compliance. The public will also have a chance to provide written or verbal testimony.
