NIGC reports record full year gross gaming revenue of $41.9bn for 2023

The National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) has released the full-year gross gaming revenue numbers for the fiscal year 2023. The $41.9bn generated in 2023 is a record number for the NIGC and represents a 2.4% increase year-over-year.
Acting Chairwoman Sharon Avery and Vice Chair Jeannie Hovland made the announcement at the Wisconsin Gaming Regulators Association Summer Conference in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
“This year’s gross gaming revenue results demonstrate how a strong regulatory framework and diversity of tribal gaming enterprises generates growth in the gaming industry,” Avery said.
“Again, this year, tribal gaming operators and regulators have proven that their ingenuity and tenacity are catalysts for growth, even in the face of an ever-changing gaming landscape. This steadfastness will ensure that tribal gaming remains a valuable resource for continued economic sustainability in tribal communities.”
Hovland also spoke on who is to thank for the record year having said, “I congratulate the industry regulators, operators and tribal leadership on another successful year. Their hard work in meeting and overcoming the challenges presented by an increasingly competitive market is evidence that tribes are resilient, and their gaming expertise is yielding benefits for their nations as IGRA intended.”
The Phoenix and Rapid City regions saw the highest increase in gross gaming revenue by percentage for 2023, reporting increases of 5.5% and 4.9% respectively. The Phoenix region reported a full-year gross gaming revenue for 2023 of $3.9bn while the Rapid City region reported $425.9m.
All other regions reported increases in full-year gross gaming revenue as well. The Sacramento region led the way in gross gaming revenue, generating just under $12bn for 2023, a 1.8% increase year-over-year. The Washington DC region reported a full-year 2023 gross gaming revenue of $9.2bn, increasing from the $8.98bn figure reported for 2022.
The Portland region reported an increase of $48.4m from its $4.5bn figure generated in 2022 while the St. Paul region’s gross gaming revenue increased 2.8% year-over-year to $5.1bn for 2023. The Tulsa region increased 2% year-over-year from the $3.5bn figure it generated in 2022 while the Oklahoma City region increased just under $67m year-over-year for a 2023 gross gaming revenue of $3.2bn.
