Hard Rock announces July closure date for Mirage overhaul

A long-standing hotel fixture on the Las Vegas Strip, the Mirage Hotel & Casino has confirmed it will close its doors to undergo a complete transformation to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on July 17.
The change entails a complete overhaul of the site, including the development of a new 700-foot guitar-shaped hotel, which is set to feature in the center of the Las Vegas Strip.
During the period of closure, Hard Rock has organized $80m worth of severance packages, set to be paid to all eligible union and non-union employees.
Further to this, guests with tickets at the hotel for July 14 and further will have their reservations canceled and refunded. The overhaul is also set to generate 2,500 construction jobs in the city.
Hard Rock International Chairman Jim Allen said, “We’d like to thank the Las Vegas community and team members for warmly welcoming Hard Rock after enjoying 34 years at the Mirage. We’d also like to thank the Unions, community leaders, local and state government organizations and the Gaming Commission for their support and fair negotiations over the past year. Also, we are grateful to MGM for assisting with our transition.”
Hard Rock acquired the Mirage from MGM Resorts for $1.075bn in 2022 and initially announced plans to update the Hotel & Casino back in November of last year.
It has been a busy period for Hard Rock, as the company also launched its new loyalty program – Unity by Hard Rock – last week.
