Handle exceeds $500m for Indiana sports betting in March

The latest Indiana Gaming Commission report for March 2024 provides a comprehensive overview of the state’s gambling landscape, detailing tax revenues, wagering activity and other key metrics across various licensed establishments.
Total win during the month from the state’s casinos was valued at $223.4m, with $38.7m coming from table win and $184.7m coming from EGD/slot win.
Sports wagering handle reached $500.8m for the month, with Ameristar Casino bringing in the most at $186.5m. In terms of taxable AGR, the total for sports wagering reached $39.4m in the state.
Total tax revenues from gambling operations in March amounted to $72.4m. This revenue is derived from multiple sources, including supplemental taxes, sports wagering taxes and other taxable adjusted gross receipts (AGR).
Among the top revenue-generating establishments, Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana A emerged as the leader, contributing $9.5m to the state.
Other major contributors included Horseshoe Hammond, Caesars Southern Indiana and Ameristar Casino, each generating multiple millions in tax revenue.
A closer look at the breakdown of taxable AGR by establishment reveals the diverse nature of Indiana’s gambling market.
Sports wagering activities, for example, played a significant role in revenue generation, with major contributions coming from online platforms such as DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM.
Other sportsbooks also made substantial contributions, with William Hill and Unibet among the key players.
The report highlighted the fact that table game activity and electronic gaming devices (EGDs) played a crucial role in driving revenue for licensed establishments.
Horseshoe Hammond and Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana were among the leaders in table game activity, while Horseshoe Indianapolis and Caesars Southern Indiana reported high figures for EGDs.
At the back end of 2023, Indiana reported total win of $190.8m in November – a statistic that was achieved despite the fact that sports wagering AGR was down by 32.1% across the month.
