New York March figures; GGR falls 6.8%, handle at $1.85bn

The New York State Gaming Commission has announced its mobile sports wagering figures for March 2024. In total, handle came to $1.85bn, with mobile sports wagering gross gaming revenue (GGR) of $151.7m. 

Compared to this time last year, handle has grown 3.4% from the $1.79bn in March 2023, while GGR has declined 6.8% from last year’s $162.8m. Net revenue to education has also declined year-on-year, down 8.1% from $83m to $76.3m.  

Following its breakthrough of $2bn in monthly handle month for October and growth the month after, GGR has gradually declined over the months since. Despite this, GGR in March was up 15.4% from February, where GGR was reported at $131.4m.  

Breaking New York’s March figures down by operator, the biggest contributor to GGR was FanDuel, which generated $73.1m, or 48.2% of the state’s total GGR. This was followed by DraftKings, with a monthly GGR of $48.8m; 32.2% of the state’s total. 

BetMGM found itself beaten by Caesars for third place, making $7.8m in GGR compared to Caesars’ $13.6m. Following this was Fanatics, despite having only launched in the Empire State last month. The Fanatics Sportsbook has been launching across the US following the completion of its acquisition of PointsBet USA, which was finalized last week, with other states to recently gain access to the sportsbook including Arizona, Kansas and Connecticut.  

In terms of GGR, Fanatics outperformed Wynn, Bally’s and Rush Street Interactive among others. 

Handle produces a similar story, with FanDuel on top with $781.2m (42.2% of the state’s total) followed by DraftKings’ $612.2m (33.1% of the state’s total). This reflects FanDuel’s Q4 report of its total market share, which was stated to be 43% at the start of 2024.  

Among the state’s operators, the smallest handle was reported by Wynn at $4.2m. This was followed by Bally’s and Resorts World Bet, reporting $8.3m and $8.4m in handle respectively.
