The Hermosa Beach Education Foundation (HBEF) will hold a fundraiser on March 23 to raise money for a not-for-profit that supports academic programs for Hermosa Beach schools, according to a Daily Breeze local report.
The California foundation will change its community center into a mock casino to host Hearts of Hermosa.
This month’s event will run from 6PM to 11PM.
Hermosa Beach City School District Superintendent Jason Johnson commented in an email to local news, “Hearts of Hermosa is a signature event in our school community, “(which) raises essential dollars for school programs like STEM, music and counseling while also being an amazing celebration of what it means to be part of Hermosa schools.”
Players can get in on the action at card and dice tables. Along with casino-style play, Hearts of Hermosa will offer guests dinner and drinks from local vendors, as well as dancing and a DJ. The event will feature various auctions to raise funds for the foundation.
During the past 10 years, Hearts of Hermosa has raised more than $330,000 per year on average to support the local community.
HBEF President Jennifer Buchsbaum told local news that bringing a mock casino to a fundraising event is a first for the foundation.
She explained further by saying, “For the first time ever, we’re bringing in casino tables. So, the theme for this year’s event is Monte Carlo. We’ve been wanting to do this over the years.
“At the end of the night, they cash in their chips for raffle tickets. There will be a drawing for a grand prize with a raffle. We’re still trying to determine what exactly that grand prize is going to be.”
