Total state revenue remained stagnant, though areas like Reno saw revenue growth of over 50%.

Figures for January’s gaming revenue in Nevada have been reported by the Nevada Gaming Control Board. For the month, total gaming revenue totaled $1.28bn, an increase of 0.5% year-over-year. Of this, $393.5m was generated from table, counter and card games, while the remaining $885.9m was made from slot machines.

Las Vegas Strip

Of the state's $1.28bn gaming revenue, $686.2m was made by properties on the Las Vegas Strip. This accounts for roughly 53.6% of the entire state’s revenue.

Slots were the biggest contributor to this, making $400.8m in January. Of this, the most financially successful slot type was multi-denomination slots, followed by 1¢, which made $263.2m and $87m respectively.

Combined, table, counter and card games made less in January than multi-denomination slots, totaling $285.4m. Of this, baccarat was the biggest contributor to this metric, making $97m. This is followed by blackjack and sports betting, which made $70.5m and $28.5m, respectively.

Despite the recent launch of new properties like Fontainebleau Las Vegas, revenue for the month was down 3.8% year-over-year.

Downtown

In Downtown Vegas, January revenue totaled $85.7m, up 1% year-over-year. Of this, $54.6m came from slots, while the remaining $31.1m came from table, counter and card games. Slots were down 4.4%, while table, counter and card games were up 12.2%.

Once again, multi-denomination slots were the biggest revenue generator among Downtown’s slot machines. Followed by 1¢ machines. Making $29.1m and $17.2m respectively, multi-denomination machines were up 21.3% while 1¢ machines were down 25.9%.

Sports betting was the biggest contributor to table, counter and card game revenue, followed by blackjack. These games made $16.5m and $5.6m, respectively. Reasons for the popularity of sports betting may include the recent Super Bowl, which saw significant levels of activity for online sportsbooks and tech suppliers like GeoComply

Boulder

The Boulder area of Nevada, which shares Clark County with the Las Vegas Strip and Downtown, reported January revenue of $93.4m. Slot machines accounted for 89.7% of the area’s revenue, making $83.7m, while the remaining $9.7m was made by table, counter and card games.

Following similar trends as other Clark County areas, multi-denomination and 1¢ slots were the first and second biggest slot machine revenue generators. Blackjack was the most popular card game in Boulder, making $2.8m (down 16.9%), with the second most popular being sports betting, making $2.6m (up 33.1%).

Elko County

Elko County reported revenue of $28.9m in January, down 11.7%. Slots once again reigned supreme with multi-denomination and 1¢ slots on top. Table, card and counter games followed a similar pattern, with blackjack and sports betting being the biggest revenue generators.

Washoe County

January revenue was up by 35.4% in Washoe County, reporting $87.7m for the month. Slots were up 36.1%m, making $72.7m, while table, counter and card games were up 32.4%, making $15m.

Like Elko County and many Clark County areas, multi-denomination and 1¢ slots were the biggest revenue generators. Notably, $25 slots only generated $190,000 in January, with a year-over-year decline of 662%.

Of the revenue made in Washoe County, Reno accounted for roughly 74.3%, making $65.1m – growth of 55.5%.
